The Annual Juried Exhibition of the Mid-Southern Watercolorists (MSW) returns to the Arkansas Arts Center, opening on February 13, 2015, and remaining on view through April 12, 2015, in the Samuel Strauss Sr. Gallery. This is the first year in a three-year partnership between the group and the Arkansas Arts Center. “We’re thrilled to have the exhibition return to the Arts Center,” said Jeannie Fry, President of the Mid-Southern Watercolorists. “This juried exhibition and its prestigious location help fulfill the MSW’s mission of enriching the stature and encouraging the recognition of watermedia,” Fry continued.
Now in its 45th year, the exhibition received 149 entries by 81 artists. Guest juror and nationally recognized watercolorist, Linda Baker, narrowed the entries down to the thirty works selected for the exhibition. A member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society, among other professional groups, Baker is intrigued by the gentle translucence of nature. She considers her work to be a contemporary approach to traditional subject matter.
The Mid-Southern Watercolorists holds its meetings on the third Wednesday of each month in the Lecture Hall at the Arkansas Arts Center and organizes workshops with locally and nationally recognized watercolorists.
